Pet Bereavement Counselling · Cardiff, Swansea & South Wales

Support that doesn’t depend on where the nearest counsellor is.

I’m Dawn, a qualified Pet Bereavement Counsellor. I live in Shrewsbury, a few miles from the Welsh border, and I work with guardians in Cardiff, Swansea, the Valleys and right across Wales by Zoom or telephone. If specialist support for the loss of an animal is hard to find where you are, it isn’t hard to find here.

Why online

Support from a place where you feel comfortable.

Working by Zoom or telephone means you can speak with me from Cardiff, Swansea or elsewhere in Wales, without travelling to Shrewsbury. You can choose a quiet place where you feel comfortable talking, with no journey or waiting room.

It also means you can talk from the place where you feel the loss most: your own home, in the chair they used to sit beside.

Telephone counselling

If the signal’s better than the broadband, we’ll use the phone.

Telephone sessions are a full alternative to Zoom or telephone, not a lesser one. Some people choose the phone every time, because of their connection or because they find it easier to talk without a screen. We can switch between the two whenever you like.

How it begins

A free call, then one hour at a time.

01The introductory call

Twenty minutes by telephone, at no cost. You tell me what’s happened; I tell you how I work. We decide together whether to go on.

02A first session

One hour, Zoom or telephone. No agenda but yours.

03Continuing sessions

Weekly, fortnightly, or now and then. There’s no set number, and you can stop and return.

Fees

The same across Wales as across England.

Set out here so you don’t have to ask on the call.

Questions

What guardians in Wales ask me.

I’m in a rural area with patchy internet. Will it work?

Yes. Telephone sessions are available for exactly this reason, so you can choose the format that suits you.

I’m in Swansea rather than Cardiff. Any difference?

None at all. Swansea, Newport, Aberystwyth, Bangor: the sessions are online, so the map doesn’t come into it.

Is there a free bereavement line I can call as well?

The Blue Cross runs a free Pet Bereavement Support Service in the UK, and I’m very happy for you to use both. If you’re in crisis, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or ring the Samaritans free on 116 123.

Is this the same as speaking to my animal who has died?

No. That’s Animal Communication, a separate service. Counselling is for you. I offer both and keep them apart.

About Dawn

About me.

I’m a qualified Pet Bereavement Counsellor and an Animal Empath, and I’ve worked with animals and their guardians since 2006. Shrewsbury is home, shared with Millie, my Jack Russell. Mylo is in spirit now.

More about me and how I work

Separately

If you’d like to hear from the animal you’ve lost, that’s a different session.

Animal Communication with an animal in spirit is by Zoom or telephone, from a photograph, and is never a condition of counselling.

Animal Communication

Whenever you’re ready

Ring, and we’ll just talk.

The first call is free, and you can leave it there if you want to. If talking feels too much, write instead.
